LIBIS Library Card can be obtained at Registration and Information (K. Donelaičio g. St. 8, I floor lobby), phone (8 37) 32 42 59 and other service areas. In order to get LIBIS Library Card it is obligatory to present a valid ID card (containing your full name, personal number and a photo); fill in and sign the Registration Form (agreeing that the person provided valid personal information, got familiar with the Library rules and accepts that the Library will manage the personal information); present a proof that the person lives and/or studies in Kaunas; LIBIS Library Card (if the person owns one from another library) or obtain it at KCPL.

Children up to 16 years are registered upon submission of valid personal documents of one of the parents (guardian), filling out a registration application in the prescribed form, which confirms the consent of one of the parents (guardian) for the child to visit the library.
In which libraries can I use my LIBIS Reader‘s Card? What should I do if I have lost my LIBIS Card?
LIBIS Library Card is valid in the libraries which had joined LIBIS system. The LIBIS reader's certificate is valid for an unlimited time. Once a year must re-register ant confirm the relevance of your personal data at the library you visit or online at www.ibiblioteka.lt.

How much does a Library Card cost?
Library Card at Kaunas County Public Library is issued free of charge to newly registered LIBIS users.
Instead of a lost LIBIS Library Card, a new one is issued upon payment of a fee of 2 euros.

What is my password if I want to order a publication in KCPL electronic catalogue?
When connecting to the www.ibiblioteka.lt portal for the first time and entering the Library Card number, you need to click on the link “Forgot my password“ and specify your e-mail address. You will receive a generated password in your e-mail, which you can later change to a more suitable one after logging in. You can also connect to the electronic catalogue ibiblioteka.lt through the Electronic Government Gate. More information about creating a password can be found by clicking the link here.

How to search the KCPL electronic catalogue?
In order to find out if the library has the book you search for you should go to the main window of the library website kvb.lt. In the search box enter the exact title of the desired publication or its part, author or key word and choose search option in Catalogue.

You can also renew items online before their due date. In the Electronic Catalogue click on My area and login with your LIBIS Library card number and Password (be sure the information is correct). After clicking Login you will see the list of borrowed items. Then click Renew on the chosen item and enter a new due date and click the option Renew. Please note that the items which had reached the deadline cannot be renewed.

How long can I borrow books for?
It depends on a lending department. Books are loaned for 30 days at these locations: Fiction, Central Depository and Art Reading Room (very popular publications - for 15 days), Music Department, Natural Sciences and Humanities, German and Swiss Libraries. Books are loaned for 15 days at these locations: Periodicals Department and Children’s Literature Department.

What are the fees for overdue books?
If KCPL user is under age 16, he/she will not have to pay any fines. However, he/she will not be able to borrow any Library material (temporarily). The length of suspension depends on the period of time after the final deadline of overdue unless it is longer than 6 months.

What services does the Interlibrary Loan provide?
If a consumer does not find the necessary publications at KCPL he can order them or their copies from other Lithuanian or foreign libraries. You can submit an order to the library staff member at K. Donelaičio g. St. 8, 104 room or by e-mail [email protected]. This service is free.
